Narrative
He followed farming, mercantile, milling and lumbering; bought the mills and
farm of his father, on Shawangunk Hill, about 6 miles from Middleton, where
he kept a store. Sold this place and ascended the Delaware, bought a farm on
which Borreyville later stood and bought timber-lands. Sawed lumber in large
quantities for the Philadelphia market and accumulated considerable property.
He was accidentally drowned while attempting to cross the Delaware River
after night-fall. He was a man of great natural abilitity.
