Narrative
On board the Sloop "Massachusetts" 1760/1; served also 1761/2 and at
Ticonderoga 1763. Settled at Newburgh, N. Y., and after his marriage moved to
Sawangunk, Orange Co., N. Y., and there built mills and accumulated
considerable wealth before the Revolutionary War. During the war was a
Lieut., preventing disaffected persons from running cattle and other property
to the British. He was a man of strong natural talent, and was always much
respected by his neighbors. He delivered a 4th of July oration in 1822.
