Narrative

Admitted to First Church Newburyport, Jan 31 1742. On Alarm List of Fifth Co
of Newbury Militia, 1757. Grand Juryman 1765/6. Adm on the estate of his
sister Eunice FARMER. Bought land in Newbury from Jonathan Dole Apr 15 1735.
He became an eminent merchant, importing goods from London in parnership with
son John. Items were iron, steel, brass, pewter, cheese, butter, flour and
naval stores. It was aid he was the first importer there. He left a very
valuable estate. He was a parish treasurer and trustee.
