Narrative

Baptised First Church, Newburyport, by Rev CUSHING, 1738-9.
Unmarried. Marched on Lexington alarm 1775 with brothers William & Joseph;
during the Revolution engaged in privateering. An early, enterprising merchant
of Newburyport in partnership with his father. He continued after his death
until he moved to Leicester where he erected a house on Mt Pleasant. "A man of
pleasing manners, of a cultivated mind, much esteemed for his social
qualities." He wrote 1782 book: "The Gentleman and Lady's Musical Companion."
