Narrative
With his uncle Silas [303] he bought land in Salem from Stephen PHILLIPS Sep
17 1804. About 1803 he started business as a rope maker, with his uncle
Silas, on Bridge St, but soon afterwards the partnership was dissolved and he
continued on his own. On Feb 17 1837 his rope-walk and spinning-house were
burnt down a loss of $25,000. He re-built and continued until his death. He
was an original member of the Salem Mechanic Assoc, and for many years
Director of the Salem Bank. The family held a well executed portrait of him.
