Narrative

Styled Col. He had an estate, corner of two lanes, known as Gedney Court,
leading from High to Summer St, Salem confiscated. It was built by Richard
CLAYDON of England and known as the "French House" since at one time it
sheltered French emigrants. It was used as a Custom House 34 years; sold to
William B BROWN of Beverly; then to Col FRYE. Dr Wm. BENTLEY aged it as 1645.
Daughter Judith later obtained its title for a small sum, by a quirk of law,
and the influence of powerful friends. He died on his birthday, aged 97 years.
