Narrative

Enlisted at 15 as a private and fifer 1778 to guard BURGOYNE's captured army;
then 1778 as a private to Winter Hill; also in service 1780 and as a drummer
1781. When 17 he was "5 ft 3 in in stature, with a ruddy complexion." He
settled in Hallowell, Me, where all his children were born. On the U. S.
Direct Tax Books of 1798 he was taxed for a house and 100 acres of land in
Hallowell. He was a kind, generous, spirited man, and died of the spotted
fever.
