Narrative

He enlisted in the War, 1862, as a private, later Second Lieut, then First
Lieut in the Signal Corps and in the Regular Army. Stationed, 1866, at Albany
as Adjutant General of the New York Volunteers with the rank of Major. He was
engaged in all the battles and sieges with SHERMAN and GRANT of any note in
the South and West, the taking of Petersburg and surrender of LEE. First
Lieut Clifford STICKNEY, of the 20th US Infantry, Regular Army, from New
Orleans, died, unmarried, of Yellow Fever at Marion, Smyth Co, Va.
