Narrative
Enlisted as a private from South Hadley in Camp at Castleton, No 3, 1776; was
an Adjunct at the taking of Burgoyne in 1777; was a Sergeant in 1778. In 1785
was chosen Town Clerk and Treasurer of South Hadley for one year. When about
7 years old he was apprenticed to Isaac DAVENPORT, a shoemaker and butcher of
Milton, for 7-8 years. Returned to Stoughton and learned from lawyer William
DUNBAR the new style of music, and taught singing, writing music for his
scolars, 60 copies a day. He bought a farm in South Hadley from John SMITH.
