Narrative

On the death of his father his guardianship was granted to Francis LAMSON
1803 who gave bonds with his brother Samuel and David ROPES. He lived in
Beverly until he was 24 years old, then moved to Salem. For several years a
master of various merchant vessels in foreign trade. In 1819 when commanding
the "Levant" was taken prisoner by a British frigate; kept at Dartmoor Prison
nearly 2 years. He lived for a while in Methuen; in spring 1844 retired to his
farm in Auburn, N. H.
