Narrative
He paid his way through school; entered Amherst College at 16 years, left at
21. Tok charge of West River Academy, South Londonderry, Vt. At the
commencement of the War he formed a Company in the 8th Vermont Reg; went to
New Orleans, La; received a Lieut's position. He was detatched from field
duty as Superintendent of the Colored Schools of New Orleans; also
Quatermaster in the Educational Dept of the Freedmen's Bureau; in 1868
Principal of the High School, Chicopee, Mass.
