Narrative
Graduated from Dartmouth College 1824; later admitted to the Essex Bar. Built
a large professional business; a partner of Hon Caleb CUSHING. Some years
editor "Newburyport Herald"; several times elected Representative to General
Court. In 1837 went to Missouri, became editor "St Louis Gazette"; practised
law in St Charles County. Went to Jefferson City a few years then returned.
Editor "St Louis Republican" 12 yrs; Representative in the Legislature; County
Judge; Registrar St Louis Land Office; Secretary for New Mexico.
