Narrative
He was baptized at First Presbyterian Church, Newburyport. Enlisted private
1775/6 at Newburyport. Sailed from Newburyport Nov 15 1776 in "The Dalton",
Capt Eleazer JOHNSTON. Taken Dec 24 1776 by British Man'o'War "Reasonable"
and tried for treason; committed to Mill Prison, Plymouth, England Jun 1777;
released 1779/80 to France; shipped with John Paul JONES in frigate "Alliance"
till Aug 1780; then returned to Newburyport. Letters of Adm on his estate
granted to son Nicholas Jun 13 1848, following a deposition by Moses MOODY.
