Narrative
His guardianship passed to Daniel WELLS Apr 1 1777, after his father's death,
when he was aged 19 years. He enlisted 1776, for Plumb Island; again 1777-9
from Newburyport in 11th Reg; called out at the alarm of Bennington 1778. From
Power of Attorney granted to Capt Jona GARDNER Jr and Capt William ROSS of
Salem Jul 25 1781 he was in the private Ship of War "Disdain", 16 guns, Capt
William PATTERSON, against enemies of the USA. Other names: Capt Moses
NOWELL; Capt GREENLEAF; Gen STARK; Maj BRIDGES; Capt Joseph BELLOWS.
