Narrative

Moved to Hartwick, Otsego Co, N. Y, with his parents, then in 1818 from there
on to what was then called the Holland Purchase, in the town of Collins, Erie
Co, N. Y. He was one of the first pioneers in that wilderness, cleared up a
new farm, built the first saw-mill, helped erect the first school. His memory
was long cherished as one of the best of men.
